Min Ko Naing,Under Solitary Confinement for Ten Years

A Student Leader of 1988 Uprising in Burma
Min Ko Naing or "Conqueror of Kings," is the nom de guerre of one of the most prominent public figures in Burma's struggle for democracy and human
rights. During the 1988 pro-democracy uprising, Min
Ko Naing opened the eyes of the Burmese people to the injustice and suffering that was being unleashed upon them. He led the All Burma Federations of Student Unions (ABFSU), the most distinguished student body in 1988 uprising. After the violent crackdown of the uprising, he remained inside Burma while leading the ABSFU. He was arrested on March 23, 1989 during his hide and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He has being isolated in a small cell and tortured since he was arrested. According to the reports from inside Burma, he is suffering from a gastric ulcer. Even though he is confined in harsh prison situations, his spirit of freedom struggle remains strong. It is believed that Min Ko Naing has been transferred from Insein Prison, Rangoon to Sittwe Prison in Arakan State.
